During this special 6-day trip to Ponte de Lima We combine horse riding with a visit to one of Portugal’s best-known equestrian events: the Ponte de Lima Horse Fair.

You’ll take dressage lessons on Portuguese horses, enjoy a wonderful trail ride through the natural beauty of the Serra d’Arga, and spend several days at the Horse Fair, where sport, breeding, shows, Portuguese traditions, music and a convivial atmosphere all come together. We’ll also treat you to delicious food, Portuguese wines and a special stay amongst the vineyards.

Experience the Ponte de Lima Horse Fair

Ponte de Lima is known as Portugal’s oldest town and provides the setting for a special equestrian event every year. During the Ponte de Lima Horse Fair It’s all about horses.

There, you’ll meet breeders, riders and horse lovers, see various equestrian disciplines and get to know the Portuguese equestrian world and culture. But the atmosphere goes beyond just horses. Music, gastronomy, shows and long summer evenings make the event a real experience. On page 3 of the travel brochure, you’ll see exactly that combination: packed stands, horse presentations, evening shows and live music.

During this trip, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the Horse Fair at your own pace, whilst also taking part in a number of special activities together.

And of course you’ll be riding a horse yourself!

On this trip, you won’t be coming to Portugal just to look at horses. You’ll be driving yourself. 

During the first few days, a number of dressage lessons are scheduled at the Vale do Lima Equestrian Centre. The lessons last around an hour and are tailored to the rider’s level and experience. This makes the trip suitable for riders of all levels. The brochure specifically states that the dressage lessons are adapted to riders of different levels and experience. As well as the dressage lessons, we’ll also head out into the countryside for a special trail ride.

Horse ride through the Serra d’Arga

One of the highlights of the trip is a horse ride through the stunning countryside of the Serra d’Arga. Here, you’ll discover a completely different side to northern Portugal. On horseback, we’ll ride through the green, rugged landscape of this unique region. After the ride, we’ll enjoy a picnic together before heading to the Horse Fair. This way, you can combine nature, horse riding and the unique atmosphere of the event all in a single day.

A stay amongst the vineyards

During this trip, we’ll be staying at Vinha by Nhôme in Ponte de Lima. This is a small-scale property with just five suites, beautifully situated amongst the vineyards and offering views over the surrounding countryside. The property features, amongst other things, a panoramic outdoor swimming pool and a jacuzzi with chromotherapy.

The suites feature air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a television, a small kitchenette, a minibar, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a private patio. On page 9 of the brochure, you can see the warm, luxurious atmosphere of the suites, the swimming pool and the setting amidst the greenery and vineyards.

A lovely spot to unwind completely amidst all the horse-riding activities and the hustle and bustle of the Horse Fair.

What makes this trip so special?

This trip actually combines the best of several worlds: riding a horse yourself, experiencing a unique international equestrian event, and enjoying Portugal. You won’t just be standing on the sidelines watching the horses; during this trip, you’ll be in the saddle yourself. During the day, you’ll ride dressage or head out into the Portuguese countryside on horseback. Afterwards, you’ll find yourself amongst Portuguese breeders, riders and horse lovers at the Horse Fair.

And in between? We’ll be enjoying good food, Portuguese wine, the historic Ponte de Lima and our lovely accommodation amongst the vineyards.
