REISBLOG – Sonya Sloan, memories stitched together with laughter!

Our recent holiday at Quinta do Falcoa near Tomar in Portugal wasn’t just a horse holiday. It was so much more!! Sure, there were lessons in the arenas under the guidance of coach Pedro Farto who was sure to provide passionate advice with often a comedic twist. The beauty of Portugal was enjoyed on horseback out in the countryside, riding through vineyards, olive groves and eucalyptus plantations.

With horses like Fakia, Elvis, and Malmador, each full of their own cute character. We were treated to horses who were loved and cared for impeccably by the grooms including Maria who, with her quiet disposition worked hard daily always caring for the animals while smiling and friendly to the guests.

In fact the whole team at Quinta do Falcoa showed a respect for the horses, the visitors and for their work. They were genuinely happy to be working under their leader Rui Salvador. Rui and his wonderful wife Sandra welcomed guests like they were their own family and made our stay feel relaxed and comfortable. We were welcomed to their dinner table with daily offerings of delicious Portugese traditional cuisine and left their table and Quinta feeling full from their meal and their love. Truely incredible people!!

Floor Shoenmachers for Global Horse Promotions delivered us a holiday as ordered but with so much more!! Every day was a surprise. She made sure every detail was seamless, and that we were content and happy throughout our stay. For this we feel appreciation and gratitude. Thanks Floor.

It wasn’t just a riding trip, it was the Portuguese countryside, the kindness of the people, and memories stitched together with laughter and Portugese hospitality. We left with friendships and a real affection for Quinta do Falcoa and Portugal. A fantastic experience indeed.
